Our client is an Integrated Energy company, and trader of Commodity and Energy products including, Metals, based in Central London.

The role requires specific skills and experience in physical copper cathode trading. The successful candidate will work to build the physical Refined Copper book, and:

  • Trade physical copper cathode under the guidance of the Trading Manager to develop the profitability of the book.
  • Produce daily and detailed exposure reports and understanding trading positions of copper cathode at any one time.
  • Accurately hedge physical copper cathode exposure with corresponding profit and loss analysis.
  • Help to manage pricing exposure and suggest innovative ways to hedge the risk through historical analysis.
  • Understand financial instruments and their adequacy to hedge physical copper cathode.
  • Cross check positions based on data and compare with information from other sources to ensure system information integrity before the daily hedge and after.
  • Aid Trading Manager and other traders to maintain accurate information in system with position and PnL.
  • Support Trading Manager and other traders on day-to-day trading (checking historical deals and market patterns).
  • Capture new trades in the risk management system and checking trade statements.
  • Collect and distribute market information with a little analysis and view.
  • Keep and maintain internal systems and portfolios checked, updated and balanced at all times for better understanding of PnL.
  • Keep clear overview of internal deals and communicate with operations to execute them accordingly.
  • Update cost accruals on finalized deals.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Executing copper cathode trades in the copper market.
  • Trading physical copper cathode to develop and increase profitability.
  • Negotiating spot and term contracts to supply the copper cathode market.
  • Performing analysis and support the team.
  • Developing markets and counterparties.
  • Proposing and carrying out derivatives strategy for the benefit of the team.
  • Contributing to arbitrage options and structure deals with other company entities to share the risk and the reward on a fair basis for the benefit of the team.
  • In general, perform any trading activity under supervision.
  • Enhancing the image of the company and promote a culture of honesty and fairness; comply with company policies and business Regulations.
  • Liaising with Risk, Settlement, Treasury, KYC, Legal and other relevant Depts on trade and or system related issues.
  • Monitoring major industrial events and arrange marketing trips, and client/counterparty meetings.
  • Meeting reporting requirement for business updates, market analysis, risk, application etc. for the Department and wider company.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent.
  • Understanding copper cathode fundamentals, products, grades, qualities, geopolitical and environmental influence on copper cathode market.
  • Understanding copper cathode price exposure, risk profile, all trading instruments and technical trading.
  • Solid knowledge of typical trading counterparties and a strong network.
  • Have a strong understanding of the Pioneer trading system.
  • Experience of copper concentrate and/or scrap business is a plus.
