Our client is a global energy & commodity trading group, with offices worldwide in over 40 countries: they are one of the most exciting and commercially driven Commodity Trading houses in the industry!

An opportunity has arisen for a team leader to run the European Power and Gas physical scheduling team. We are looking for a self-starter with solid experience in physical power and gas scheduling across the whole of Europe, specifically with a portfolio that includes physical assets such as interconnector capacity across both power and gas, LNG, and storages. (Physical Gas experience is essential)

The role is being recruited due to internal promotion, in a rapidly growing London office, where there is continuous M&A activity across a wide range of commodity products and assets.

The successful candidate will be required to work 1 weekend in very 5 (with 2 days off in lieu), and one evening per week until 10pm; normal hours are 8am – 5pm. (No 24-hour shifts)


  • Lead, manage and direct a team of 5 schedulers and ensure coverage of scheduling tasks, including evenings and weekends.
  • Manage all scheduling activities and related processes covering gas and power across relevant European market areas and TSOs
  • The role involves acting as an interface between Power traders and European Grid Operators for the submission of exchange bids, nomination of positions within various countries and the nomination of cross border flows.
  • Ensure gas positions, storages & transport capacity are nominated timely and accurately across UK & European Grids
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders on improvement projects, onboarding new markets / products and other ad hoc tasks.
  • Optimisation of out of hours positions, for gas and power, from both the trading desk and DMA business.
  • Participating on European capacity auctions on JAO, PRISMA and any other local platforms.
  • Closing out positions from storage and capacity cuts/scaling.
  • Ensuring all market license conditions are upheld through good communications with the relevant network operators and implementation of network codes
  • Generate and lead efficiency improvement projects


  • Minimum 5-10 years power & gas scheduling experience required.
  • Management experience of a small team an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of European gas & power markets – experience onboarding new markets in this area would be a plus as well as balancing mechanisms, day ahead/intraday nomination deadlines & matching
  • Experience of physical nominations for cross-border flows across power and gas. Experience of LNG regasification and Storages across multiple European markets.
  • Experience working with Openlink, EPEX, M7, JAO, Gemini, PRISMA, & Trayport
  • Trading experience a plus
  • Good knowledge of the energy industry, including gas and power operations.
  • Excellent computer skills, SQL, VBA.
  • Effective communication and time management skills.
  • Work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to cope with pressurised situations and adhering to deadlines.
