As a Junior Vessel Operations Officer, you will work as part of a medium sized Chartering team, within an International Commodity trading company in the center of Rotterdam.

The Chartering team has circa 50 staff divided into multiple teams: Freight Trade, Operations (Voyage and Time Chartering), Bunker desk, Technical and Vetting management/Sustainability, Freight accounting, Risk- and Position management, Business Development/Business Intelligence. Our Chartering team is ambitious, innovative and diverse, with both experienced colleagues and entry-level professionals working together. The team operates around 160 vessels daily, shipping a total of around 60 million tons of cargo per year.

We are looking for a Junior Vessel Operations Officer, who is ready for the responsibility to learn through “training on the job” to execute an efficient and effective operation of chartering transactions.

You will start with a tailored program, to operate and coordinate your own vessels with the support of a Senior Operator and be responsible for the enormous load of commodity on those vessels. A Senior Operator will function as a mentor. You will build up relationships and have contact with different people all over the world; port agents, captains and colleagues working in other offices.

This is a demanding and satisfying job because you oversee all the details of your vessels which are an important link in the logistical chain to transport the commodities to different ports.


  • Bachelor in relevant field such as nautical, technical or maritime field of study
  • Passion for shipping
