As a Junior Trader in our clients Cotton department, your role will be to assist the traders and provide support on the operational side. You will also be responsible for analysing the supply and demand of the global cotton market. This will involve analysing not only the fundamental drivers that form crop and consumption predictions, but also to look at trade flows, import and export price parities and macro-economic drivers. It will be your responsibility to present this analysis to the trading desk, which routinely forms the core of their decision making.

The position requires not only keeping up to date several established databases, but also using your entrepreneurial skills to seek out new data sources that give the team a trading edge. Closely following on from this, the role will require you to use creative and innovative solutions to store and manage data.

You will constantly and proactively be giving advice to the other cotton traders on a day-to-day basis and taking part in discussions during the weekly traders meeting.

This role offers wide-ranging responsibilities with a focus on supply and demand, trade analysis and improving data management processes.


  • Assisting the (Senior) Traders in performing market analysis of the worldwide Cotton producing and consuming countries.
  • Drafting and analysing Cotton export, consumption, and production reports to serve as input for the (Senior) Traders.
  • Conducting Cotton pricing exercises.
  • Assisting in the marketing of the various Cotton commodities to third parties.
  • Where and when necessary, assisting on the documentation side of trade deals, such as letters of credit, in conjunction with the operations department.
  • Track and maintain a database of trade-flow statistics for cotton.
  • Coordinate and collate supply and demand data from the regional offices and other sources.
  • Track domestic and international prices for import/export parity analysis.
  • Improve and automate existing models.


  • University degree in Economics, Econometrics, or similar scientific field.
  • Ideally at least 2 years of experience in a commercial or analytical role, preferably in the Commodity industry.
  • Good MS Office skills, and in particular an advanced knowledge of Excel & VBA.
  • Programming skills, database and data scraping knowledge will be strongly favoured.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Strong analytical and methodical skills, supported by keen attention to detail.
  • A team player.
